Ever heard of Kimi no Na wa (Your Name)? The animated film has received much fame, becoming the 5th highest grossing non-English film worldwide. Directed by Makoto Shinkai, the man is back with another project. Rather than a film, Shinkai has created a 30 second advertisement for Japanese construction company Taisei Corporation.
The advertisement takes place in Singapore. Watching and spotting multiple Singaporean landmarks throughout the ad is one of the cool parts about the advertisement.
Marina Bay Sands siol!
Got ArtScience Museum also!
The advertisement follows Japanese engineer Ayano. She is working in Singapore as part of the construction team building the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL). The short ad highlights Ayano’s difficulty as she adjusts to living alone in a foreign country away from her friends. Haiz, poor thing sia.
Given that Shinkai is in charge of the ad, it is unsurprising that the ad has the same artistic style and music as Kimi no Na wa. As a result, Shinkai has created an ad that is as charming as the film despite its much shorter length. Oddly compelling for a 30 second video, do check it out. This time don’t need tissue like the film ah.
Despite being an advertisement, seeing Singapore being featured was pretty cool. Majulah Singapura!
